Chair
2023–ongoing
Look for the chair and you will see how an object cannot exist independent of its environment: designed for rest, mobility, compliance, or constraint, the technology of the chair inscribes and structures bodily presence by organizing posture, orientation, and duration.
Working across analog and digital, photographic formats, such as 4x5 color negative film, wet plate tintype, and digital c-print, this ongoing series traces the chair as it moves through colonial portraiture, carceral documentation, scientific imaging, and medicalization, accumulating authority in cultural archives, museums, and legal repositories.
